Malo e lelei
‘Building
Pacific Islands peoples education through partnership and service to the
community.’ Unless a child learns about the forces, which shape him or her,
hear the history of their people, their values and customs, their language,
they will never know themselves or their potential as human being.
Pacific
peoples culture and values have a unique place in the history of New Zealand.
It is vital that Pacific peoples have the opportunity to fully participate in
education and to achieve their full potential, for each child to ‘Name their
word and claim their world’.
PIECCA is committed to developing strong and effective policies and networks
that will help Pacific Islands children to fully participate and succeed in
their education in New Zealand.
This
document, which outlines the strategic and operational plans for PIECCA for
the period 2001- 2004, are the future steps in developing the
administration/executive sector, education/ training sector, collaborative
partnerships and working together with the Ministry of Education. Communities,
education stakeholders, ECD, non government organizations and other community
agencies will continue to play an important role in the development of the
organization.
The plan
aims to create a new image of the organization, and expand and develop all
levels operation. Furthermore, it will address how to expand and raise the
functional level of Pacific Early childhood education centres and encourage greater
community participation with the emphasis on equity in education.
It is
PIECCA’s fervent vision and hope to ‘significantly improve the quality,
efficiency and coherence’ of the organization and of our work.
